Can't put my atheros based wireless card into monitor mode
Call me crazy, but I like to test my network often. Until recently, I've been doing so on my old Ubuntu 6.06 laptop... the problem is It's too slow (1.06 GHz single Core ), and old, (designed for Win 2000) to really be effective any more. So, recently I bought a new laptop... one with a Dual core Processor, and twice the speed. Anyway, I'm running Fedora Core 10 X86_64 on it. My problem is as follows: Although I do have MadWifi installed, for some reason, I still can't put my Atheros based Netgear WPN511 into monitor mode. (in the Network configuration window, it says "Atheros Communications Inc. Atheros AR5001X+" I'm not sure what it means but I'll put it in in case it helps) does MadWifi not work with Fedora? if not, is there a Fedora 10 (X86_64) alternative? Thanx for your help
I'm trying to set it up for Aircrack so I can test my network. following your link does give me some code to work with.. but it's for madwifi-ng and i'm honestly not sure which madwifi i've installed (i used a very convienient script called "autoten" and didn't see what version it was putting on. even if it is the same version, I don't really know what It's telling me to do.. and I don't like not knowing. would I need to uninstall and then reinstall madwifi? how would I do that?
Looks like from the step by step instructions they provide you need to un-install your current driver then do exactly what they are telling you to do..

I was afraid of that... know where I can find info on uninstalling?
If the module name is the same you may be able to install the alternate one over top of the one you currently have installed.. It would probably work, but just doesn't seem like the right way to go.

I installed it via a program for Fedora 9/10 called autoten. I told it what to install and it installed it. i don't really know which module it installed it from... (that's what I get for taking the easy way )
