Greetings everybody,
I have a EPSoN c43sx (parallel) color inkjet printer.
my distro is Mandrake Linux 9.1 and i'm facing problems in getting the printer to print.
To configure the printer, i first went to Mandrake control center (GUI) and clicked on Harddrake. The printer was auto-detected and the model (c43sx) was also detected all right. After this, however, when the system tried to match the model with the printer database, the model no was WRONGLY detected to be c42ux;then a message came which said that if there is
any mismatch, 'please select the model no ( or a compatible one ) manually from the list'. I browsed through the list but c43sx was NOT on the list; c41sx,42sx,etc were on the list, so i chose the NEARESt one ie c42sx. But, Aftrwards, when I tried to print a test page or other sample pages, the maintenance Led on the control panel of the printer glowed red and the green-power led kept flashing and there was NO output. A message came up which said that 'the pages to be printed have been sent to the printer and may take some time'; i waited and waited but there was no printout. I tried tinkering with the other model nos for epson in the list and configured /re-configured the other options in the menus but NOTHING worked. I was exasperated and am extremely worried since I have a deadline to meet. But my faith in Linux is strong and i'm sure i'll be able to do it myself if you provide me with a little help. Please reply soon.
ps- the hardware is perfectly alright; the printer can print from windows on the same PC.

1) Try setting up the printer in CUPS http://localhost:631. I had a C43UX running without trouble on Mandrake 10.

2) If not, try the C41 driver. AFAIK the C41 and C43 are the pretty much the same.

3) If possible, upgrade your distro. Mandrake 9.1 is fairly old now, so perhaps a newer version of Mandrake / Mandriva may fix your problem.
