can't get scanner to work on Cannon MP970 ubuntu hardy heron

I have a cannon MP970 which i purchased when running windows .I have just installed Hardy Heron (fantastic!) and have got nearly everything working but this printer/scanner. Managed to get it printing using another cannon driver ,but can't get the scanner to operate .Have Xsane installed.Any ideas?

According to this, http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums....d.php?t=859999, support for this Canon MP970 has only recently been introduced into sane. You will need to try a cvs version of sane.
