Can't boot RHEL3 with Cinema Display on Geforce FX 5200
Hi-
With the 23" Apple Cinema Display attached, the machine seems to hang during boot. I am booting in runlevel 3. I can boot with no display attached, or with a CRT attached (the boot pauses for 10 seconds on GRUB, but requires no interaction). I have disabled kudzu--no luck. If I boot using one of the successful methods, I can then attach the Cinema Display and bring it to life when I startx. Of course, the Cinema Display doesn't work during boot, so I can't see whether I am being presented with some blocking prompt (or other info). The boot doesn't get far enough to write anything to /var/log/boot.log or /var/log/messages.
Watching the drive activity lights, I can see that the hard drive is working to begin with, then the floppy is probed, then momentary activity back on the hard drive, then nada thereafter. Things seem alright in the BIOS, and I have previously booted the machine into Windows with this display attached.
I have installed the latest NVIDIA driver and updated XF86Config as advised in the readme (of course, this is irrelevant since I don't get anywhere near starting X). During install of the NVIDIA driver, I was advised that the kernel had been built to support rivafb as a loadable module, and that this should be disabled to allow the new driver to operate correctly. Inspecting the kernel source seems to confirm that rivafb is configured as a loadable module (rather than compiled in). lsmod/modprobe show no indication that rivafb is being loaded.
Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!
