GeForce FX 5200 + Glxgears?

This is kind of an odd wtf sort of question...

I was just seeing what FPS my nvidia card was running at under slackware 10...

And I got very very high numbers.

I mean is this normal? Or is my card going to explode :P

Code:
josh@j0sh:~$ glxgears
10488 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2097.600 FPS
12618 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2523.600 FPS
12348 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2469.600 FPS
23783 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4756.600 FPS
28903 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5780.600 FPS
28743 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5748.600 FPS
29510 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5902.000 FPS

I remember once getting numbers in the 10,000FPS range, I just ignored them.

I usually get ~1200FPS-2000FPS with my GeForce 5200FX...

Although, I don't think glxgears is a real accurate way to measure fps... Probably best to check fps in some of your favorite games?

Anyway, thats just my two cents.

What resolution and color depth are you running on? I'm running on 1600x1200 with 32-bit color and I get around 3.9K in glxgears (I'm using a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra). However, it's not really a good benchmark. Try something like Quake ]|[ or Unreal Tournament.

I don't know how for UT, but for Quake 3 you hit ~ to bring down the console, then type this in:
cg_drawfps 1

One other question to ask -- were these scores taken when glxgears was running in full screen mode, or in a much smaller window, say 2" by 2"? The smaller the window, the faster the fps score, but if these numbers were the result of a full screen, man, I'd say you've got one smokin fast rig. -- J.W.
