Brothers printer does not print even though it is recognized and says it is printing
Hello, I'm new too. Came to Ubuntu for secuity, but now see ALL the benefits of Linux. My W7 is wiped out, but now can not get printer or scanner to print or work on Ubuntu. Tried everything. The printer reads, after trying a while: "check your connection" Thanks for the help.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in <Linux - Hardware> and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
For us to be able to help you we need more information about your problem:
- Which version of Ubuntu?
- Which brand and model is your printer and scanner?
The Ubuntu is 14.02 I believe. It was just loaded last week. The printer is Brothera MFC 7360N and the PC is HP 6500 series with 12Gb Ram and AMD Athlon Phenom CPU. The Settings show it is connected, but the printer shows it trying to connect.
CUPS worked fine until I clicked "Print", It printed, but all the pages were blank--and it Kept on printing till I shut the printer down.
what could be next?
The first test would be from the cups web interface
click on "printers" ( upper right)
then click on the name of your printer ( middle left )
then click on "maintenance" and select "print test page"
There is ink in the printer-new in fact. I followed your steps exactly. the printer hmmed, but nothing happened. The window in the printer stated 'Connecting to PC" but it timed out...and still nothing. Same for Scanner.
I am printing off of Daily Racing Form "Race Cards" which I had been doing for months until I installed Ubuntu last week
It is a usb connect. About a week ago, i was operating Windows 7, to which the printer was attached. Then I backed up my data, erased Windows, and installed Ubuntu. Since all the right drivers were installed, I thought I was good to go.. I think you have the problem.
I am not a techie. To use a Brother printer you need to go to the Brother web site downloads and work your way through till you find your printer. There will be two drivers, one lpr and one cupsfilter. Download, change to the directory where the download is and run dpkg -i followed by the name of the driver. You can copy and paste but will need to remove all the info before the name. You need to be in a terminal as root or use sudo if it is set up.
The scanner you probably need to go to /etc/sane.d genesys.conf and uncomment the name of your scanner i.e. remove the *. You will need to use a text editor either as root or with sudo as /etc belongs to root.
All of these suggestions seem to point to the same process. i am so new to this that I dont even know if the termanal recognises me as administrator or I can use sudo. I will try all these ideas and post my progress or results.
