Not sure if the modprobe.d/blacklist will work if using modules.conf file. But as Lenard mentions place the alias in your /etc/modules.conf.
Now I believe your distro should recognize /etc/modprobe.conf file. If you wish to experiment rename your modules.conf to modprobe.conf. Reboot. If it does not load as needed then make sure you can at least either get back in as runlevel 1 single user or from a boot cd so as to rename the file back. But should boot even if it can't find either file.
