Post Best Audio Card for Linux


Hi all,,, ive been wondern ever since i came to a conclusion that my onboard Audio Card doesnt support Recording either through mic or from the playback itself. Im a regular user of Recordn features coz im interestd in sound mixing & editing. But i hav to turn to Windows as linux doesnt hav a proper module for my Audio adapter. Now i wud like to Try Buyn a new Audio Card for this sole purpose. i wud like to record from mic as well as the playback inside linux (better known as "STEREO MIX" in the microsoft world.) please have ur say or enlighten me on this and recommend some if u know. thnx

how to figure out the best as thers a number of'em ?

I used to use M-Audio audiophile 24/96 card for recording (works well):

Then I got a better (more versatile) card - Tascam USS-122 (USB) (works well)
Obviously you need to load the firmware for this card to work.

I've read a lot of favourable reviews about the RME Hammerfall series. They appear to
be really professional cards for studios (and most importantly can be fully utilised under linux):

They are quite pricey though, and I am not sure if it's worth buying them unless you're thinking of a proper recording studio.

2. Make a list of the 5-10 that most closely match what you want.
3. Check out reviews of these cards (google is your friend).
4. Ask at LQ for any experiences on specific cards that you are considering.
That should do it for you.
