BenQ CDW4824P: Can detect drive but not disc.

Hi,

I have an ATAPI BenQ CDW4824P cd rewriter. I'm able to detect the drive but it's not able to read any CDs I put inside. I have configured my system according to the CDRW Howto and upgraded the firmware but nothing seems to work. Same problem when in Windows. Could this be a hw problem?

Sounds as if it may be. Have you cleaned the laser lens?

it's a brand new drive. will try cleaning it though.
