ATI Radeon 9200 video overlay problem

I am running Slackware 10.0 and recently upgraded to the 2.6.7 kernel. I've been having problems with my ATI Radeon 9200's video overlay ever since. 3D works wonderfully. glxgears gives me over 1500 fps.

The problem with the video overlay is that it only works some of the time now. Using xine, the only two drivers that actually work are xshm, which I don't think uses the onboard video overlay, so it uses so much CPU power to run that it can barely play a DVD, and xv. The xv driver only works intermitently, but when it does work, CPU usage is acceptable, so I think the video overlay is actually being used. When it doesn't work, gxine, totem, and mplayer all crash on startup. Xine works, but only plays sound. No video.

What I did after upgrading the kernel is install and recompile the kernel module from the ATI web site. I haven't been able to find any error messages telling me why xv doesn't always work, so I'm hoping someone might have a clue as to what's wrong. I've removed and re-installed all the mpeg library packages, xine, gxine, and xv with no change in behavior.

Thanks

PS - It's already been suggested that I downgrade back to 2.4.25, but that sounds pretty painful. I hope there's something little I've screwed up.

I have noticed that I cannot use xv overlay when using more than one screen. Although there's no problems running on slackware 9.1, kernel 2.6.6 with fglrx 3.9.0 and a 9700 pro
