ATI drivers make the console flicker
I just installed the proprietary ATI driver for my integrated Radeon Xpress 200. My system is Debian etch, amd64 port. My kernel is 2.6.20.4 which I compiled myself. The driver works fine on Xorg, but causes all the consoles to flicker. Here's when it happens or doesn't happen:
-Boot into X - Yes (flickers)
-Boot into X then switch to text mode
-Boot into text mode - No
-Boot into text mode then launch X - Yes
-Boot into text mode then use old xorg.conf - No
-Then switch back to new xorg.conf - No
The last one bugs me the most. Here is the exact procedure:
-Boot Debian in runlevel 2 (no X)
-Delete xorg.conf and replace with old backup
-init 4
-init 2
-Delete xorg.conf and replace with new backup
-init 4
Is there any way to fix this and still have 3D acceleration? I have an NVIDIA PCI card also, but only use it for TV-out (and my BIOS doesn't recognize it).
Edit: Wait a minute, 3d accel doesn't work either. Now what?
