well, I applied the latest patches for libata (to my 2.6.11-r9) gentoo-sources and it seemed not to change a lot. Still coastering.

What SATA controler are you using? i'm on nforce4 sata_nv - justwondering if there is a correlation...

My controller is the Intel 82801, it follows the ICH6 spec. It's part of a Dell Precision 370.

I'd recommend d/ling the latest 2.6.11 kernel source, then patching it with the latest 2.6.12-rc*patch, rather then trying to patch gentoo-sources. I'd be worried about the patches the gentoo dev's have applied on that ebuild colliding with the libata patch you applied. At the very least it's something to try, and you can always switch back to the gentoo-sources kernel when not testing.

Hi, I have the same drive.. From the Redhat mailing list thread here, it looks like what we're doing here isn't direclty supported in FC3. I haven'f found out anything WRT FC4 yet (nor have I downloaded the tests, perhaps I should try that?), but with the increase in SATA ATAPI drives, I hope this support will be in the mainline kernels come 2.6.12.

FYI, the SATA chipset I'm using is an onboard Silicon Image 3112, attached to an NForce2 Ultra chipset, on an Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo. I'm going to try the patch and see what happens, I'll report back when I find out.

it's finally fixed!!

on gentoo there is a patch in gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r3 which fixes a problem with sata->pata bridges. that was our problem. I believe the patch is upstream in 2.6.13.

at least, i -think- thats the patch that fixes it.

either way, with kernel-2.6.12-gentoo-r3 i am currently burning my 1st DVD+R and i have just tested my first CD-R and its perfect.
