Unhappy SATA Plextor with Mandrake 10.2rc x86_64

I recently have purchased two new hardware products, SATA Western Digi Raptor 10,000 HDD and a SATA Plextor 716SA.

Prob:

I was origanally running Suse 9.2 x86_64 Professional but when I could not get the install to detect my Plextor I gave up. In search of a new x86_64 Distro I found Mandrake 10.2rc beta 2. After installing it (not with the Plextor) looks like the Plextor is also not detecting in this distro. I am new two mandrake and consider myself a newbie even though I been running linux for about a year now.

I have been searching for a similar issue with no luck. Please help for my next option is to install windows

System Info:

AMD 64 +3000
Asus K8V-Deluxe
SATA 36gig Western Digital 10,000 Raptor
SATA Plextor PX-716SA
IDE Sony 10x/4x/32x
Radeon 9800 Pro
512 3200 DDR

Plextor DVD-RW

I have Mandriva 2005 LE 64 bit on an NVIDIA4 chipset, where and I can read & write CD-ROMs and read DVDs on my Plextor 716SA. But alas, burning DVDs still eludes me, and apparently, everyone else on this board. All I can reccomend is to keep looking here until someone solves this mystery.

Thanks for the update Dave, at least you can mount the drive and even burn cd-r's. I don't know if this help anyone with this question but 1 out of 5 boots the system will stop at start of boot and give this error:

scsi scan: 96 byte inquiry failed Consider BLIST_INQUIRY_36 for the device.

could BLIST have something to do with "Black Listing"? I read some post about black listing hardware but I do not know where to find this file or what is exactly is.

Thanks again,

Plextor SATA vexes

What motherboard do you have (i.e. what chipset)? Maybe loading the right chipset drivers may help. The 64-bit AMD version for NVIDIA chipsets:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_n..._1.0-0301.html

As a Hail Mary, you could try another SATA plug. On my board, I have 4 ports controlled by the NVIDIA NORCE4, and another 4 by a Silicon Image chip.

Good luck!!

It looks to me that there is only a 32 bit driver for mandrake 9.1 and 64 & 32 bit driver for suse 9.1. I tried to install but with no luck...I can't believe know one else is having this issue. Also where can I check for Mandrake 10.2 x64 updates???

SATA DVD Quest

Updates should be available on the menu: System -> Configuration -> Packaging -> Mandrakelinux update

Warning: I updated the DVD firmware, and now it doesn't even read DVDs on the Linux side. Grrrr.... :-/

ok well my updater wasn't working..the url link was wrong so i had to edit. Still I was having problems installing pakages through the update manager. I had to manually download some packages and install them (drakx). Could you go to Applications -> System -> Configurations -> Packaging -> Software Media Manger and tell me what url you use? thanks!

Anyways, I updated Harddrake and still my Plextor SATA will not show up nor can i configure it. I guess i need to find VIA VT8237 x86_64 bit drivers for this board.
