asus a7v880 - no sound, debian

I installed debian from the netinstall boot cd, everything is working fine except my sound card. Its undetected for some reason and I cant get it to work. I read somewhere you have to add a line to modules.conf but I tryed that and it still doesent work. Has anyone here had a similar problem? Please help.

Thankyou,
robdeweese

That module is loaded. Have you tried any mixers to unmute your sound? Could you post the output from the following command please?

cat /etc/modules.conf

What kernel are you running?

uname -r

You might try downloading and installing the latest alsa packages. You can find them here.

http://www.alsa-project.org/

good luck.

You may have to remove the oss modules that are loaded first, and any entries that refer to them in /etc/modules.conf. You can find some more info here.

http://alsa.opensrc.org/

good luck.

Since you've reinstalled and updated the kernel could we see the current output from /sbin/lspci -v, /sbin/lsmod, and cat /etc/modules.conf, or modprobe.conf, whichever is appropriate?
good luck.
