Annoying "hiss" sound on Fedora Core 2 with ES1371

Greetings,
It seems that lately i'm having a problem with my sound card when using FC2. When KDE (3.2.2) is on, my soundcard makes this annoying hissing sound (resembles static noise from a radio, in a way).
This also disturbs videos and sound files to be played, since the hiss somehow affects the sound, and adds a static noise to it (just as if i had lousy reception on my tv or something).
I've been using MPlayer to play MP3 & Video files.
I have an ES1371 sound card.
I've tried disabling the KDE sound system - unchecked the checkbox in the control center, clicked apply - no difference (also tried restarting my pc).

Can anyone help me on this issue? please be very specific when you describe the resolution as i am a complete newbie

thanx,
Gilad.

hi

open up a mixer application and try adjusting levels on each input and see if that makes a difference.
