AC 97 sound problem & PPPoE slackware 10.2

I have slackware 10.2 and there is no sound!!
I am a lame user of linux and now I am learning it!
Please help me or give me some article to read!

I have also PPPoE connection problem
p.s. my MB is Acorp 7kta with sb onboard

Log in as root. Type this:

#alsaconf to config your sound device
#alsamixer and unmute the devices you wand to use

Then start X to se whether everything works fine. If it works run KMix. If not, shutdown X, run alsamixer again ant try with different settings till it works.

Shutdown X and type:

#alsactl store to accept the chages

I had the same problem myself (PPPoE) - I tried so many things to make it work with slack 10.2, but I couldn't. Then I found a simple solution for that - install slackware 11.0. It now works fine. As for the AC97 sound, start alsaconfig from the console. It will install the sound for you almost without any prompts. After that you can configure your soundcard with the command alsamixer (again from the console)
