Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

ABIT NF7-M, USB keyboard problems in GRUB =/

Recently installed RH8 on my system, dual boot setup with XP the default OS. My MoBo BIOS has 2 options for the onboard USB; USB keyboard initialization: OS or BIOS (something along those lines).

When I select the BIOS option, in GRUB and RH8 my USB keyboard works just peachy. But in XP it is unusable. No num/scroll/capslock LED response, nothing.

The reverse is true using the OS initialization option in the BIOS.

I'm at school right now, so I don't have the model # of the keyboard, but I know it's a Compaq.

If you need any additional information don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks in advance,
IKE

I don't have a strait forward solution to your problem, but what I used to have to do is use the windows boot loader ( which works with the bios setting of OS ) to load either windows ( which now works ) or to load lilo ( I imagine grub would be no diffrent ). The only problem with this is that lilo/grub still won't recieve any of your keystrokes, so if you need to pass options to the kernel than your sol, but if it can just fly solo than linux will load your usb drivers and all will be well ;-)
I'm sure that you could do something in windows to solve this as well, but as to what it might be I have not an inkling of a clue, I know that you can pick up a little device which will allow your usb keyboard hook up to a PS/2 port for pretty cheap too.
Well I hope you get it figured out.
