3ware controller exchange

hi,

i'd like to know how a 3ware raid controller could possibly be exchanged for another one or a different controller.

i know raid controllers are not necessarily compatible across model lines and brands. but many combinations in the desktop area raid 0/1 work, like promise to intel ich to silicon image ....

could a 3ware 9500-s4 be exchanged for a 3ware 8500? or for an ich6 or ich7? raid 1 only that is.

You should be able to use a previous model of the same brand, but I suggest backing up the data just in case something bad happens.
