350mb avi turns to 2gb?

Hi all!

I'm wondering if anyone has had a problem like mine, or know what it might be?

I downloaded some avi-files (about 350mb each) and after some hours they
got overwritten and showed they were over 2gb each? how's that possible?

Some time back ago this happend also.. an mp3-folder got messed up and
it was converted to a single file that was 1.5gb?

The disk it all happend on is an 160gb IDE.. the partition is ext3. Could it be
the filesystem was messing it up?

/ Taz

A thought, or rather, a test:
Create a new partition, or even better, grab a new drive, create a reiserfs or xfs filesystem on it, copy the files there, leave them on your system for a while and see what happens.

A guess:
Whatever application you used to download them runs in daemon mode. The files that were 350mb weren't actually complete, as the daemon ran in the background, it continued downloading the files after the client exited.

Cool
