250GB drive only showing 127GB

I recently purchased a 250GB Maxtor Diamond Max hard drive to be used on a brand new system. This is subject to change but I tried installing Debian-Woody on the box.

The bios shows the drive as a 250GB drive, but when I try to partition and format the drive it only shows 127GB I've also tried to set up the drive in an already functioning box and fdisk shows me the same thing.

Is there some fdisk update I need? Is there a different distribution of Debian I should use?

The specs of the computer are as follows:

I would try the Sarge install disks it is soon to become the new stable release anyway and if necessary boot it with the linux26 parameter to see if a 2.6 kernel will recognize the whole drive.
