I was having lots of trouble getting my printer to work with my Linux laptop and my Linux desktop. (Ubuntu 16.04)
So I learned a lot by reading:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ing-4175616679
And I got the desktop going, following the tips therein.
But then I was in a middle range position, with the printer working well on a single page job, but failing to produce the last 25% of a document with lots of text over 3 pages long.
The problem was intermittent. But a real pain.
And I still had to deal with the laptop.
Re-reading the above thread, I deleted the driver on the laptop , and using the "localhost" step , I got a better driver installed (foomatic, mono)
So I am pleased to say that I now have both ubunutu computers printing on the hp laserjet.
About the partial document printing, it seems to be a problem of AC power especially in my home office, where my only options are limited to 15 amp circuits.
I was not understanding the hit a home electrical system takes when the laser turns on.
So:
When the printer gives me only 75% of a job, I unplug the printer AC cord from the surge protector and plug it directly into the wall, reload the print job and it works perfectly.
So its all good, thanks to everyone on the above thread !
