3D acceleration problems with Dell Inspiron 1200 and Ubuntu

Hi, I am having trouble getting my 3D acceleration running on my Inspiron 1200. I am running Ubuntu 5.10 i386. My kernel version is 2.6.12-10-386. And I have Integrated Intel Media Accelerator 900 as a graphics card. I love Ubuntu because everything else worked perfect, but I have been searching fourms all over the net for four days now and can't get this one fixed. So, if anyone can give me any advice I would really appriciate it. Thank you so much.

PS Whoever started linuxquestions.org, your great. If it weren't for this site I would have gone back to XP God knows how many times by now.

lspci should show 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corp. Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML...(rev xx) These chips use i810 driver but require 915Resolution tool to set the display resolution. Check that you have latest BIOS for your lappy.
linux-on-laptops has linux install notes on your lappy or similar model including your chipset. But Ubuntu laptop forum may have this covered too. LQ forum search with your chipset will also show many links that include how other users installed the drivers and configured X. Good luck.

lspci shows 0000:00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corp. Mobile Graphics Controller (rev 03) which as close as it is, is not the exact same thing. Could that be the problem? I went with all the automatically detected hardware settings because there didn't seem to be a problem. Is it possiable it miss-detected my graphics card? Thanks for all the help everyone.

I am going by linux-on-laptop entries with your lappy model. Scan through some of the linux install notes with your lappy (or same motherboard) to see how they got Xorg working with 3D. They used i810 driver and had to work with 915 resolution tool. (The lspci I mentioned came from your lappy specs on several of the install notes.) Good luck.
