Yike! Lost Gnome Desktop - Need Help!

I have FC6, fully updated, and everything appears fine. This morning, I decided to play around with the desktop settings a little bit. I went into the "Themes" section and clicked on the "Icon" tab. I hate BIG icons, so I was trying to find a way to reduce the icon size on the desktop. Anyway, out of curiosity, I started clicking down thru the list (I think there is a "details" button...changing the icons from one theme setting to another to see how they looked (in case I found a set I liked better)...suddenly, and I don't know the name of the particular one, I lost everything...I mean, I didn't have any icons, toolbars, anything!
I couldn't even shut down, I had to kill the power and reboot. Now, I don't even have a background picture and no command prompt or anything...if I launch into the Gnome Desktop.
I rebooted a couple of times and tried to launch back into Gnome, but all I get is a blank screen with no command prompt. So whatever I clicked on in Icon settings for the desktop literally made my entire desktop disappear. I don't know how to undo this and restore my Gnome desktop.

Can someone please assist me in restoring the Gnome Desktop? Can it be done from another GUI like KDE? Since I cannot see anything in Gnome I cannot change it...really frustrating.
Perhaps there is a simple command to do this when booting up? I don't know anything about X,
so I can't just go thru a back door and do a hack job.

Thanks everyone, kindly. Jim

If you don't have another desktop, you can use the command line. The solution should be as easy as mv ~/.gnome ~/.gnome.bad (~/ for /home/user/ if you are logged in as that user).

I had to do the same thing (but I had another desktop to use) when some Kde settings module (bless it) destroyed my desktop. When you log in again, a new .gnome folder will be created.

EDIT: I should mention, just in case, that you cannot change the name of the folder while you are logged in to Gnome.
