xterm does not start as regular user


Hello THere
I am running gentoo and I just emerged sync and emerged -u world, but now when I try to run xterm as a regular user I get the follwoing error
/dev/ttyz2 is not the slave for the master pty on fd 3
open ttydev: Permission denied
/dev/ttyz2 is not the slave for the master pty on fd 3

Never happened before
Andy ideas??

Are you running udev?

If so, the recent upgrade to udev merged the rules and permissions data into one config file - the rules file.

If this file didn't get updated with new permissions (mine didn't either) then you'll have to add in permissions for the virtual consoles. And /dev/null also needs alteration, IIRC.
