Can't get own host name. Your system is severely misconfigured
Any enlightenment on what this means and how to fix it is greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm... Can't shed that much light on this error message, but lemme ask you a question: do you have you networking properly configured? Do you have a hostname set for your machine?

Actually very recently there were some posts on setting your hostname, if you do a search I am sure you will find at least 3 or 4. Here is one.
