Tnx, this set me in the right direction. NOT, that I reinstalled kdecore - I don't like metapackages that install as socalled dependencies a lot of unwanted 'garbage' - but I had a look at the Debian Bug Report logs for kde-core.
And surprise surprise under #265264 this .xsession-errors problem was filed, recognized and (almost) solved:

this is already fixed (in KDE 3.3 in unstable *and* in kde 3.2 in
sarge-proposed-updates, which will enter sarge proper soon).
