xhost problem

Hi All,
I am trying to lunch a gui version of Oracle DBAStudio on remote server using client machine ( ssh - putty)

I know On Linux (or any Unix) XHost is a must for the Oracles Tools (Like DBA Studio, OEM Console, EMCA....) to run as the are graphical in nature and XHOST is the engine that generates it's graphics.

Well right now it gives me an error
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server

I did open up the second window and type in all different combination such as

xhost +
xhost +localhost

also try to set the env variable export Display=0:0;

this usually works fine for me if I log into server directly but I no luck doing this through client window

but still no luck.

Help me out here

Thanks in advance

Mo

Do you have an X host running on the client machine?

You also need to specify the client (local) IP address with the DISPLAY environment variable on the remote machine.

I'm not sure what commands you are running on which machine, so here are a sequence of steps that are run on the client machine.
Code:
xhost +
telnet remote.server.machine.ip
export DISPLAY=client.ip.address.here:0.0
xterm& (or whatever X program)
Now a X window should pop open on the client PC.

First, make sure you have a X Server on your local host. For example, if you are using putty.exe to get to your server, you must have some sort of X application server (eXceed, Reflections/X, etc.) on your PC. Just plain putty.exe won't do it.

If you do have X server software installed, make sure it is configured to accept connections from the host you have Oracle installed on. Most X servers use something like "xhost +" to accept connections from any host.

Last, telnet to your oracle box, say ora1. You now have to set the DISPLAY variable = your_host_ip:0. For example, if your host's IP is 192.168.1.104 and you're in a ksh, you would:
Code:
export DISPLAY=192.16.1.104:0

Thanks for all the help Guys. I installed the vns and use that to get to my oracle box and did the xhost + and worked like a charm.
Unfortunately company doesn't have enough money to buy eXceed or Reflection/X.

If your company can't afford Exceed or ReflectionX or one of the other heavy-hitting Xservers you can try Xwin32.

http://www.starnet.com/

It's not free, but the 'trial' version (last time I looked) gave you 30 days, and then after that limited you to 30 minutes usage at a time.. ie. You start it up.. putz around with it for half an hour.. get a message box, close it down, start it up... etc etc.

It's better than nothing.

I also found not too long ago a free version of an Xserver. Unfortunately I can't remember where... (and it was very *very* lacking in features)

Slick.
