if you want to mount a floppy to /mnt/floppy then /mnt/floppy must be there

mkdir /mnt/floppy

mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

the hostname is your assigned hostname for your connection if you have one. Like cc12345-a

if you don't then you don't need it.

right

it works then

your floppy is mounted

you can put files in /mnt/floppy to write to the floppy, or take them from there to read from it.

Lets get back to the X problem

there is a file in /etc/X11/

it is either XF86Config or XF86Config-4

to see which one it is run this command

cat /var/log/XFree86* | grep XF86Conf

david@zeus:~$ cat /var/log/XFree86* | grep XF86Conf
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"

now

look at the Screen section of the file

DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1400x1050 1280x960 1024x768 800x600"
EndSubSection

enter the modes you want.

if you want things bigger on the screen use "800x600" it really depends on what your monitor can do and how small you want things to be

switching modes can be done by pressing ctrl_alt_- or ctrl_alt_+
using the - and + keys on your keypad
