Red face Xconfigurator after Nvidia drivers ?

I installed XFree86 4.2.0 and the Nvidia display drivers .

and now i have trouble i cant run Xconfigurator ?
I am using Xconfigurator 4.9.39 and when i invoke it, it starts up and tells me all about hwat it is going to do and then i hit ok and it comes up with a wee error in the bottom left "Segmentation fault"

the thing is the new nvidia drivers are all working fine infact my monitor is now running at "70hz". My trouble is that i would much rather it ran at "75hz" which it does in win2k. I know it may be possible to edit the etc/X11/XF86config -4 file

I have tried to do so and i screwed it up so i had to change it back, this is a section of my XF86config file:

[code] Section "Monitor"
Identifier "CustomConfiguration"
VendorName "Unknown"
ModelName "Unknown"
HorizSync 31.5-57.0
VertRefresh 50-90 this is what i changed, i set the min to 75hz
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "nVidia Corporation|NV15 DDR (Geforce2 GT"
Driver "nvidia"
BoardName "Unknown"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Linux Frame Buffer"
Driver "fbdev"
BoardName "Unknown"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "nVidia Corporation|NV15 DDR (Geforce2 GT"
Monitor "CustomConfiguration"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

the result of changing the min to 75hz caused my screen to operate at 45hz instead! , ummm so i dont think this was the right thing to change :P should i even change anything in this file? or is it the other file i should adjust "XF86config" ? a mode line in there maybe?

cheers

If you want to use Xconfigurator, I'd suggest chaging the driver to "nv" and make whatever adjustments you need. Once you are satisfied edit XF86config and change the driver back to "nividia".

If you know what your monitor's refresh rate, just edit file like you did. Don't specify 75, but put in the range that your monitor supports.
