writable 'scratch space' for data between linux and winxp filesys questions...

What is the best way to have at least a part of a hard disk read-write access to both linux and winxp.

The system in question is dual booted on one harddisk with winxp on a ntfs filesys. The linux partitions are resierfs. I can mount the windows partition in linux but ONLY with read access. How can I gain write access? Must I make a certain area of fat32 so i can read and write with both OSs? How come linux cant write to NTFS?

Thanks.

it's a good idea - it's simple and it works well... lot's of people choose this "shared partition" method...

who says it can't?? it can, but the (free) kernel support for this is very experimental... i imagine the main reason for this is that microsoft keeps a tight lid on the ntfs code and specs, but i'm not sure...

what i can tell you is that there are options... for example, there's a project called captive which uses windows files (ntfs.sys, etc.) and other stuff to achieve awesome read/write ntfs compatibility:
