Wrap Length on Terminal

Hey guys, here is the problem. I am currently running Debian, and use xterm for my terminal. The standard/default value of [wrap length/text length] for any terminal, is 80. So after 80 characters, it will automatically, word wrap. So, is there a way to change this value so that it'll word wrap, say, at 150 lines?

My guess is that I have to put something into .bashrc, or a configuration file for xterm. Problem being, I'm not sure what to put, or where to find the configuration file for xterm if it exists. (I know where .bashrc is, though).

Another strange observation. When I do man [whatever], the wrap length goes to the edge of my monitor before it wraps. In anything else, it won't. This also confused me slightly.

So, help please.

You could try setting the COLUMNS variable:
export COLUMNS=150

See "man bash" for more details.

Just wondering if there was a solution to this problem. I am running gnome-terminal on Red Hat ES4 and like to use a 132 column window. I have set columns and scanned man pages, etc. but can find no answer on the "word wrap at 80" issue. Thanks.
