Well, if they're on your harddisk, all you need to do is mount the device.

If they're on the network, you want to take a look at all things samba.

depends... if they're separate machines on the same network, you can use samba to transfer files between the two using your network connection.

if you're dual booting, you can mount your windows drive and copy the files that way.

pretty simple stuff. :-)

to answer your question.. to my knowledge there are no programs to transfer your windows files from windows on the same dual boot machine to linux.

if your on a network, samba or maybe ftp would work.. etc..
dual booting, you can log into linux and transfer the files that way if you mounted your windows drive...

but as much as i know, windows doesn't know or will detect a linux partition.. i am unsure of any programs that would do that either.

samba allows you to share windows files in linux or linux in windows

take a look at this thread it shows you step by step on how to install samba.

link to samba setup

also you can buy programs that allow you to run windows inside linux. There are tons of them out there to choose from.

While in Windows, there is a utility called ext2NT which provides
read only access to your ext2fs partitions. I haven't come across
any util which provides write capabilities.

In short, there aren't any that work well. There are plenty that let you copy files over from your Linux partition to your Windows partition, when running Windows, but writing to your Linux partition whilst in Windows is a no-no.

Some of the programs mentioned above will let you write to your Linux partition, but you're running a very big risk of completely knackering your Linux system if you do. I you really need that Windows file to be on your Linux system, boot into Linux and copy it that way - at least we know it's safe.

FAt 32 or VFAT is well supported in linux and windows, If you need to share files on the same machine between the two, this is probably the safest and easiest option.

Make a fat 32 partition, mount it in linux.

If you are not running XP, NT, or 2000 then you are already FAT32, FAT16, or FAT which will all work fine.

There is really no difference between copying the files from windows to linux partition within linux and copying from windows to linux partition within windows.
