Why "map! <C-q> :q <CR> " does not work in vim.

Hello,
I input :map! <C-q> :q <CR> in command line mode, then return to normal mode, and press ctrl-q, but vim does not quit. Why?

Thanks!

When I try your map command in Gvim, it does not quit, instead it puts the editor in --VISUAL BLOCK mode, it does nothing in Vim.

Instead, try this command in Gvim, it does nothing in Vim as well:

Code:
nmap <c-q> :q<CR>
Not certain why it does not work in Vim, maybe some other process traps the keystroke before it gets to Vim.
