Why does the Linux kernel message console follow with my current VT?

My Ubuntu 12.04 Linux installation has a command boot option "console=tty8". I expect all of kernel messages to go there. However, if I switch to another virtual terminal, say VT2, and I plug in a USB stick, all of the kernel messages about the discovery of said device are printed to VT2 instead of VT8. Why? Why don't the kernel msgs continue to appear on tty8? How can I force them to stay there and not be displayed on the VT that is in the "foreground"? Is there a tool or option for controlling that?

Thanks
Roger R. Cruz

Somewhat strange way to avoid kernel message :-) If you do not want to see too many kernel messages, you should adjust your klogd settings, for example:
Code:
klogd -c 3
http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?klogd+8

Hi ZK,

I don't want to cut down the kernel messages. I would like to keep them, but just that they be displayed in the VT that I assigned to them via the console= boot option. I don't want them to show up in my foreground terminal where I am putting up a dialog box.

I should add that my pv-ops kernel is running on top of Xen. I don't know if this is significant or not but it is worth mentioning.

Roger
