Yes but it's easier to use aptitude. I used apt-get for a year and now using aptitude, won't get back.
When you have a conflict, it will try to solve the problem and ask you what solution you prefer.

Thanks, I have to try too. Wouldnt you think there is a bug or package making failure (in that case) ? With Debian that's very seldom such things.

Take care when you switch to aptitude there are a few stuffs to run. Go in debian subforum and do a search.
For your problem, I doubt it; you are running Stable right? Fully stable I hope ;-) not mix of this and a mix of that?
fam and gamin conflicts, they do the same thing. Actually I don't really see a bug in what you get.
Try to reinstall kde-devel to see.

Try to reinstall kde-devel to see.
Then thunar disappears. It goes to the Darkness
I have stable sources.list normally

I quickly looked at etch (I run lenny/sid so I browsed the debian webpage) and:

kde-devel depends on kdebase
kdebase depends on kdebase-bin
kdebase-bin depends on libfam0
libfam0 replaces libgamin0
thunar depends on libthunar-vfs-1-2
libthunar-vfs-1-2 depends on libgamin0
libgamin0 is in conflict with libfam0

So.. it's not a bug, it's a feature. Either kde-devel or thunar, you choose

It's a feature ? There is a point I miss ... I do not understand really why

libgamin0 and libfam0 do the same thing and can not coexist together.
kde-devel depends on libfam0 and thunar depends on libgamin0. so kde-devel etch is incompatible with thunar etch. It's a decision of the maintainers that they used both their stuffs.

This is solved in the next debian releases I think. hé gamin has been removed due to problems like this.

I just tried on lenny (could be that etch thunar version is different that lenny one) with APTITUDE and it solved the problem:
thunar recommends gamin but I rejected the installation of gamin and then looks like I can get thunar and kde-devel.

Time to use aptitude

Could not life be made simple ?
I am always & daily wondering what bunch of crap people are able to program (not talking about linux), wondering if they care or think a bit further what for they program a soft.
