Slingbox? That's a definite way to watch television on your computer anywhere as long as you have network or internet connection. However, it's limited to one client for every slingbox and I doubt that the slingplayer software works in Linux under Wine.

Maybe you could rig up some sort of solution involving a computer with a TV tuner card as your server and setup some kind of software solution involving VLC.

I have been trying to get www.freeetv.com to work since TVU Player is hideous to get installed properly under linux. MPlayer keeps connecting and then says stop. Sites such as youtube work just fine. What am I missing?

Just for anyone else out there who might be in a similar situation, I have found that Livestation shows a few BBC channels and that far out performs the craptastic American news media. Enjoy.

You could try http://www.johnq.com/. It installs a Firefox Plug-in. There is a Free and Non-Free Option (Free won't let you view Adult Movies) Say it requires Windows but works on my Iceweasel (Firefox) browser in Debian.
