Watch TV Online?...How?

There has got to be a way to watch tv online by now. I'm not talking about something illegal like tvu player, but rather a legitimate way. Netflix is good but I want to be able to do more. I would even be willing to pay for a service that let's me watch tv online and anywhere in the world. Ideas?

Hmmmm....just a thought...

Perhaps going into Google, and typing in, "watch TV Shows online"

might come up with some good hits.

Legal, illegal...if you can access it freely, it's all good.

Some places actually realize there's an audience online, and are starting to set it up, commercials and all.

Other than that, there's always MythTV and your cable TV connection...I know, it's not watching it "online" but still...it's another option as well.

Cheers,
Ghost

have you looked at zattoo.com ?? I see you list your location as "Earth" so I can't tell you whether it works there but it's worth a look.

Oh man, that would be so nice if it worked in the states...*sigh* We Americans (I speak for the masses, not myself) are still living in the swamps and using outhouses apparently.

Hmmm...I wonder if a foreign buddy wouldn't mind passing over the software, and we could...umm...test it here in the states. >.>

Cheers,
Ghost

That is correct, when you go to DL the software, it says, "Sorry, you're in a country we don't support yet."

I'm in Korea at the moment which is why even Netflix won't work (#$%$!^^!$). zattoo.com doesn't work here either. I miss being able to watch channel news asia on there. I can't get it to work on their webite (never have in Windows either).

Thanks for all the info. I would really like to find something that let's me watch all the news networks again.

Just google for "streaming television" and you'll get dozens if not hundreds of links back. Some need proprietry software or subscriptions but there are plenty that are free and just use flash, rm, or FOSS formats.

I know Winamp could do something like this. And winamp mostly works under Wine. (Last time I used Winamp under wine, sometimes it would run away from the mouse cursor)

Edit: That feature is in the media library, which seems to be the only feature of Winamp I can't get working under wine. Though you might still be able to open video streams without the library.

You can try bbc iplayer, they was broadcasting Glastonbury festival live last week, and its always updating with shows and documentaries its pretty decent, though my guess would be they have limited it to u.k residents.

there is another popular British television company doing a similar service, though its strictly bound to windows.

Zattoo in your neck of the woods...

According to Wikipedia, Zattoo uses the geolocation info of your IP address to restrict access, but this is easily bypassed using an open proxy...Happy hunting! Apparently Zattoo plans a US/Canada roll out soon.
