want to install linux and compile on old PC

Hi,
I want to install linux on old system:
350MHz Pentium II
64MB 100MHz SDRAM
8.4 GB harddrive
Can I get linux to work on this system? I imagine the system will be slow, but I just need to compile some C code.
I have a very bad internet connection, so I'd like to buy the linux operating system CDs.
Any tips on where to buy the CDs?

Try DamnSmallLinux. It´s made especially for small or old systems with poor hardware and not much RAM. The *.iso file is just about ~50MB so maybe even small enough for your internet connection.

any distro will go on that once you add some ram. ram is pretty cheap and easy to come by for that class machine. Take it to 192 or 256 meg and you'll have a good linux box for suse or mandriva...

Otherwise use a light wm like blackbox. Still install your pick of distros. Slack maybe...

The smallest box here is a p166 with 64meg and it runs mandrake 10 with KDE. Good enough for mail and stuff.
