using enlightenment and gnome/kde on mandrake 9.0

Ok, I need some help here. I've got Mandrake 9.0 installed and I want to use gnome or kde, but I want enlightenment as the window manager. I have not been able to figure out how to get this to work. I can choose enlightenment OR kde OR gnome on login, but I can't use gnome with enlightenment. Any help for me??

If your talking about running enlightenment with gnome at the same time, while your in gnome press ctrl+alt+f1 and then login to the terminal, and type xinit -- :1, then it will bring up another screen, and in that screen type enlightenment&, then after that you can switch screens back and forth with ctrl alt f7-9 I think it is.

Um, not exactly. I don't want to switch back and forth between them. I want to use gnome as my desktop, but I want gnome to use Enlightenment as it's window manager. I know someone that has this setup in Mandrake 8.2, and I wanted to use it in 9.0. Any ideas?

Yeah, I guess that's pretty much what I'm saying. Am I correct in thinking that gnome can use enlightenment as it's window manager?

I don't know all I am saying is I know how to get your kde/gnome icons in blackbox, and enlightenment, you open a terminal and i am not sure how to spell it but its like natualis or something, then it will load your icons in a window.. (that might be what you want, I am not sure.)

When you log in, choose gnome. Then launch the Gnome Control Center and go to "Window Manager" under "Desktop" and set it to use Enlightenment.

Um, in Gnome Control Center, there is no Desktop group. There's background, and theme and stuff, but no place to choose a window manager in there. Anywhere else to look or things to try?

What group are background and theme and stuff under? What version of GNOME are you running?

I am running Gnome version 2.0.1, which is what came with Mandrake. If I go to the Gnome control center it brings up a list which includes background, theme, advanced, accessibility, screensaver, etc. I have looked through all of these and can't find where to set the window manager. Is there a script somewhere that specifies which window manager to load? Because then I could edit that to choose enlightenment, correct?

There isn't really an easy way to change the window manager under GNOME 2.

You've got two options. You can edit .xsession .Xclient or .xinitrc (whatever you use on your system) and add the line "export WINDOW_MANAGER=<path/to/enlightenment>", or you can try using "gconf-editor".

Also, here is a Google cache of an article describing yet another method of changing the window manager (they use sawfish but you can probably substitute enlightenment in this method too): ttp://www.google.com/search?q=cache:SghxxTi6go8C:http://www.varlinux.org/vlo/modules/...hl=en&ie=UTF-8
