Because of some difficulties I'm having with X windows, I'm considering upgrading from XFree86 3.3.6 to version 4.X. I'm currently running Mandrake 8.1. How difficult is this to do? Is it just a matter of downloading and installing a couple of RPMs? I believe my install disks come with both versions.
just use the software manager to install them from disk, you'll need to recinfugre X, but that's no hassle using XF86drake it's best to actually uninstall the old version as well, as they will generally run in parallel happily as they are so different
