Upgrade to 2.6 -> CD devices are gone

I upgraded to kernel 2.6.18 from 2.4.33.3 yesterday and am trying to iron out some problems. One I am having is, there are no /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd for my CD drives anymore. How can I get them to show up?

This shows up in my dmesg, so it looks like they should be there:
Quote:
hdc: PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W4824A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: DVD-ROM DDU1621, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

Do you have serial ATA hard drives? My Debian machine seems to treat IDE drives as SATA devices. So my CD-roms are /dev/scd0, etc. Interestingly enough, if I plug in a 2nd SATA hard drive (I did this to recover data for a colleague) it then decides that the IDE drives are actually IDE drives and changes them to /dev/hdc, etc.

Weird quirk, but maybe something similar is happening to you with the upgrade...

I got it. I edited my lilo.conf file and changed the "append hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" to "append hdc=ide-cd hdd=ide-cd" and they show up now.
