Is it possible to undelete files on an ext3 filesystem? I've about lost all hope, but I thought that I would ask. I am asking because I found this from a google search:

"In order to ensure that ext3 can safely resume an unlink after a
crash, it actually zeros out the block pointers in the inode, whereas
ext2 just marks these blocks as unused in the block bitmaps and marks
the inode as "deleted" and leaves the block pointers alone.

Your only hope is to "grep" for parts of your files that have been
deleted and hope for the best."

My deletion happened yesterday morning so I am about out of time anyway.

In case anyone cares, lessons learned from this experience are:

1.) Don't delete files, move them to the trash can!
2.) Create home directories on seperate partitions!
3.) BACKUP YOUR DATA!!!

I lost hundreds of pictures of my nine month old daughter because my latest backup was 4-5 months old. Please learn from my misfortune and backup your data often.
