type sudo command then i cant type in a password


1st day with linux i notice to update software and to get progs working you need to type commands when i try to type a sudo command it asks for password but it will not let me type a password i have already tried "sudo passwd root" and some others i cant remember thanks for your help i appreciate it

I does accept your password, but it is not shown on the screen.
So just type your password and press enter. You'll be fine than.

Be careful when writing, though, capitals are different from non-capitals (i.e. "a" is different than "A"), and since nothing is shown on screen, you need to be careful with typing errors too, especially if you're changing password (luckily most programs ask it twice in that case).
