tuxracer maxes out cpu usage in 9.1

I just installed 9.1 download to test it out. Everything went fine except when I try to start tuxracer or chromium my cpu usage maxes out and the game is jerky. how would I go about solving this problem.
P.S. the games worked without a hitch in 9.0
oh yeah. it is an athlon 1700 xp with 256 ram and riva tnt2 video card. Not the best but I didn't have these problems with 9.0 and I can't find anything on google or these forums.
thanks
chad

do you have the nvidia 3d drivers installed? I ran into the same problem, but installing the nvidia stuff really helps out. You can find out more at nvidia.com.

Follow the directions on the website...they are very accurate and useful. One thing they don't tell you is DON'T BE RUNNING X WHEN YOU COMPILE THE GRAPHICS KERNEL. I did that in mandrake and got totally hosed.
