Question Trying to set up a Linux server in work

Hi there, as the title says i'm trying to set up a Linux server in work, but i'm getting stuck at the first stage...install. Just so you know the server will only be used for file storage.
I'm not a Linux newbie, i've been using it on and off for about 6 years but I have never tried to install it on a server using RAID before.
The server in question is a Dell Poweredge 1400SC. Unfortunately I can't get my head around RAID at all. The server has one 9Gig SCSI drive and two Western Digital 120Gig RAID Drives. So three hard-drives all together. The RAID card has its own setup on boot where you can set up mirroring, striping...etc. I have tried to install 3 distros, Damn Small Linux, Debian and Ubuntu, none will boot. After installing it tries to load Grub/Lilo but just reboots and starts again. I think my problems stem from partitioning during installation. Onthe partition screen it has the two WD drives, which are both exactly the same and the 9gig SCSI drive. I've let the installer parition the first WD drive itself and it seemed to go ok, but it won't boot up after install. I'm assuming Linux is picking up the RAID card as it picks up the hard-drives? Correct? As I said i know very little about RAID. In the RAID bios setup thing I have turned off any striping or mirroring incase this is the problem, but does not help. The RAID card is
"Adaptc ATA RAID 1200A" and the SCSI card is "Adaptec AIC-7899".
I just tried installing Ubuntu again and it is not rebooting but is stopping at "GRUB loading, please wait..." Maybe Grub doesn't know what to boot up?

I'm going to try installing Linux to the smaller SCSI drive now and see if it likes that

Sorry if this makes no sense or is the wrong forum, but I really need help with this. Ask if you need anymore information.

Thanks

Well to start with here's Dells Linux page concerning the various RAID controllers in their servers with some support info for various distributions..

http://linux.dell.com/storage.shtml

More Distro infrormation and links to distros that have been customized with kernels that INCLUDE the drivers for the DELL RAID controllers..

http://linux.dell.com/distributions.shtml

My first hit for this a while back was the Debian on Dell Servers Page.. a install image for Debian with the RAID controller drivers inclueded.. I just wish this had the option for the 2.6 kernel..
http://wiki.osuosl.org/display/LNX/D...n+Dell+Servers

I think you should be able to find what you need using those resources..
