Set Up Linux As a server


I am really newbies to Linux. If i need to a Linux to work as a Server, which version of Linux should i install? Red Hat Linux Network? Any good recommendation tat i can start reading to install Linux as a server?

What are you going to do? There are different kinds of server: web, file, mail, etc.

Just about any one of the hundreds of distros will do any of them.

I want the server to serve as web hosting server and mail server.

As I said about any distro will work. Apache for a web server and sendmail/qmail/postfix/exim/etc. for a mail server will run on any distribution.

For overviews and reviews go to Distrowatch

The distributions I personally recommend to people are Debian and Slackware. Ubuntu is a new distro that is based on Debian.

BTW, this type of question is asked a lot on these LQ forums. To find others opinions try taking advantage of the LQ Search feature.
