Question Too many processes!?

Hola

I checked my processes through KDE and the amount of processes that seem to be running is phenominal. I can account for mozilla, xmms and the screenshot software that were running at the time but apart from that there are loads. I expected a few but are all of these nessessary?

Here's a screenshot

As you can see the list is longer than that with the scroll bar still having plenty of space to move

Do you think all of these are nessessary? Would I just switch them off in the services section of mandrake config?

Thanks

i don't see anything unusual. if you want to see what
is running that isn't kde, you'll need to exit kde, and
run top from the command prompt.

Don't worry, looking at your screenshot I can see nothing particualrly out of the ordinary. You running kde which spawns a whole lot of processes. You also have a scheduling tool called cron.

However it does look like you have some dhcp server running which you might be able to remove.

aaah.... I do not use any scheduling type tools.... how would I switch this one off? I take it you mean this is somethin along the lines of the M$ task manager? [that doesn't slow your computer down though ]

Thanks

You might not think you're using it, but Mandrake is You're on 9.1, right? Change the clock to 4.a.m. and you'll see a sudden flurry of activity as the scheduler takes care of routine house-keeping jobs.
