Thunderbird doesn't display text in greek in outgoing messages

Hello,
Thunderbird started behaving erratically recently. It stopped displaying texts in greek (greek is my mother tongue) and replaces them with an array of question marks (?????) when the message is received. At the same time, if I log in my Yahoo account on a web browser and send the same message, there is no problem. Could it be because of a problem with text encoding? I don't know where to look for it. I use Thunderbird on Linux Mint 18.3.

Maybe you hit this "bug".
Go to: Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Config Editor and change "mail.strictly_mime" to "true" and see if it helps.

FYI
Here (TB 60.7.2) "mail.strictly_mime" value is "false" (the default) and greek is displayed fine either in incoming and outgoing mail.
