K, I wrote a backup/restore script, and I was wondering if there is a way to test a cd-rom drive for contents without mounting it. I ask because I am trying to burn a CD but I want to make sure there is a CD in the drive before it trys to write, problem occurs because the only way I know of testing is to try to mount, but a blank CD can't be mounted so that won't work. Any ideas?
Thanks for the reply, I actually found a way using cdrecord, it's cdrecord -load dev=0,0,0 and that does it just fine. The atip I felt wouldn't necessarily do exactly what I wanted, but it was what got me in the right direction ;-) Thanks man!
