Angry stupid grub!

arg
ok
so i was having some "issues" before and stuff so i ended up going to my friends house to back up some stuff and install fresh copy of mandrake 8.2
everything was going fine until i got home
i tried going into linux but my monitor kept having an out of range problem because my friend has his fancy (well 3 [yes, all for one computer]) 21 inch flatscreen monitors and i have a 17inch monitor
i tried changing the xserver config at a terminal with no luck until i just went into setup again
i wanted to click the pretty buttom at the bottom of the list in the setup for xserver config stuff, but it wouldnt let me
so i ended up doing an update and then just didnt install anything else
i eventually got down to the xconfig stuff and fixed that problem and restarted
thats where meany grub comes in

originally grub had all the important stuff like "linux" and "failsafe" etc (you know the businesseses) but now it is all stinky with "old linux" and "old failsafe" along with the new "linux" and "failsafe" etc, because i updated

so how do i get rid of the "old" things? when i was using lilo (really stinky) there was a lilo.conf file that you could change that stuff with, but where is whatever i would need to rid of the "old" things, and how would i do it?

i know it really doesnt matter because im fine as long as i just TRY to ignore them, but i cant stand things like that because they drive me crazy
especially after not having a working computer for a week and now it has all this stupid stuff in my mbr

thanks in advance for any help :>

hello,
just edit the file /boot/grub/grub.conf, this may be /etc/grub.conf which is probably a symlink to the aforemnetioend file.

The file could also be named /boot/grub/menu.lst.
